Mundo Academy is proud to offer an HSPT preparation course for students in the 8th grade at Incarnation Parish School. The course will cover content commonly tested on the exam such as math, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. We will also administer a practice test at the end of the course.
- Learn strategies to improve performance on the HSPT, which is required for Catholic High School admission
- Familiarization with each section of the exam and respective strategies
- Review commonly tested topics from pre-algebra and algebra
- Review grammar rules such as capitalization, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation
- Gain practice and exposure to the exam to reduce test-taking anxiety
- Learn 15 vocabulary words a week
This is a six-week course that will include a 5-week instruction period followed by a practice test on the final week. Each class will focus on a particular aspect of the exam as follows:
Week 1 – November 19th
Verbal Skills- Review analogies, antonyms, logic, and word classification.
Math- Review fractions, decimals, percents, and approaches to word problems.
Week 2 – November 26
Reading- Learn reading comprehension strategies as well as approaches to synonym questions.
Math- Review translating algebraic expressions, solving algebraic equations, and slope.
Week 3 – December 3
Language Skills- Review capitalization and punctuation rules.
Math- Review area, perimeter and circumference, triangle rules, and Pythagorean theorem.
Week 4- December 10
Language Skills- Review grammar (subject-verb agreement, pronoun use, comparisons).
Math- Learn approaches to comparison questions in the Quantitative Skills section and timing on the Math Achievement section.
Week 5- December 17
Review all areas of the exam. Discuss approaches to test taking anxiety and time management.
Week 6 – Self- Scheduled Practice Test
We will offer a range of dates in late December and early January when students can come take a full practice test at our location at CTRL Collective in Pasadena.
The cost of the course is $150 per student. This includes all course materials.
Class will be held on Tuesdays from 1:45pm-3:45pm on 11/19, 12/3 and 12/10. On 11/26 class will be from 12:15-2:15pm 12/17 from 3:15pm-5:15pm. Practice tests generally take place on Saturdays from 9am-11:30am.
